Rinse the rice thoroughly. Combine 1 cup of rice with 3-4 cups of water or stock in a large pan. Add your choice of spices, vegetables, and other ingredients. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes or until the liquid is absorbed and the rice is tender. Fluff with a fork and serve.
