Dry yeast,also known as powdered yeast, is a drying product of fresh yeast, which makes it extremely easy to use, very easy to maintain and with a long shelf life. The ratio of dry to fresh yeast is 1:3 (that is, 1 part of dry yeast corresponds to 3 parts of fresh). Each sachet of dried yeast corresponds to 1 kg of flour. Yeast is an essential ingredient for many preparations, such as sourdough bread, buns and various doughs and pies. It is activated when it comes into contact with water and sugar, and it will start working after five to ten minutes. The result of the yeast activation is a larger, softer and puffier dough.
