In particular, EPA (eicosapentaenoic acid) is the polyunsaturated fatty acid of the omega 3 series which is the main component of fish oil. It is the precursor of certain prostaglandins, leukotrienes and thromboxanes, molecules involved in cardiovascular function, with an important effect of controlling cardiovascular risk factors (triglycerides, cholesterol and blood pressure) and anti-inflammatory activity.
