Product Description

Pumpkin rouge vif d'etampes seed by Mr. Fothergill's. Tasty French heirloom variety. 'Cinderella's punpkin', an excellent culinary variety. A flattened, ridged pumpkin with sweet, solid flesh.

Sow and grow: Sow indoors for surest results, April-June, 1.5 cm (1/2-inch) deep, on edge, in small pots of compost. Water well and place in a warm position. A temperature of 15-20 degree C (60-68 degree F) is ideal. Keep moist. Seedlings usually appear in 7-21 days. Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions (avoid frosts), before planting out 1.2m (4-feet) apart, into fertile, well-drained soil, during May-June when frosts are over. Or sow outdoors, May-June for ease, where they are to crop, 1.5 cm (1/2-inch) deep, directly into finely-prepared, fertile, well-drained soil, which has already been watered. Allow 1.2m (4-feet) between positions. Sow two seeds on edge per position. Early sowings benefit from cloche protection. Thin to leave the stronger plant. Water well until plants are established. Harvest: August-November.
Hints and tips: Traditionally used in unsweetened pies, because of its natural 'sugars.' The firm flesh is excellent for all types of cooking.
Care and Cultivation: Pinch out the growing tips when four fruits have started to develop.
